Millennium Park Chicago: A Futuristic Park With a lot Going On

If you live in or visit a city you need great parks and Millennium Park Chicago is that kind of park. Not only is it one of the greatest parks along with Grant Park in the country but it is one of the greatest parks in the world. The artistic creations here are just fascinating.

The huge structures that meet you at the park will make you a believer that you have entered a dynamic world-class park of the future!

Entry into this park is free! The Park was created as a way to transform old railroad tracks and parking lots into an addition to Grant Park in Chicago.

One of the first sculptures that you meet is the enormous cloud gate. This structure is also called The Bean because it is shaped like a kidney bean.

This piece was installed in 2004 and the sculptor is Anish Kapoor. an artist who lives in London. This sculpture was his first American sculpture.

This piece is 110 tons and was inspired by liquid mercury. The sculpture indicates that it represents a gate to the city.

This sculpture is 30 feet high and 66 feet long.

The sculpture cost almost 24 million dollars and is made of polished stainless steel.

The cost of the sculpture was covered by donations. Crown Fountain in Chicago. Another extraordinary piece that was created by Juame Plensa and constructed in 2004 is the Crown Fountain.

This incredible Chicago sightseeing structure is made up of two fifty-foot tall towers with a shallow granite pool in front.

This Crown Fountain spews water out of a person’s mouth.

The faces that show on this structure are made up of a total of one thousand Chicago residents.

Children love this structure and love to splash in the water. The Millennium Monument is another huge structure that resides here.

This structure pays tribute to an original classical peristyle and fountain that stood in this park’s area from 1917 to 1953.

This structure is 80 feet in diameter and has twenty-four paired fluted columns.

It was constructed in 2002. The architectures were O’Donnell, Wicklund, Pigozzi, and Peterson. The cost of this park was about 475 million.

Heliosphere, Biosphere, and Technosphere is another monumental structure that was installed in 2005 by artists Patrick Mcgee and Adelheid Mers.

It is made of three large two-way mirrors that are mounted at right angles. The mirrors reflect each other and their surroundings.

There is also the massive pavilion called the Chicago Jay Pritzker Pavilion. It’s home to many concerts and a good time.

This Pavillion has 4000 fixed seats and can sit an additional 4000 on the lawn.

The Pavillion is home to the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and the Grant Park Music Festival.

The BP Bridge is another structure that links the Park to its neighboring Grant Park.

In Chicago, it offers some of the best sightseeing in the city plus concerts and entertainment.

There is also the Chase Promenade which has free cultural festivals and events.

Lurie Garden is a part of the park.

It has huge hedges that enclose the garden that has many varieties of flowers and blooming cherry trees.

The McDonald’s Cycle Center is in the park too.

It’s a 300-space heated and air-conditioned indoor bike station located in the northeast corner of Millennium Park.

This park even has an Ice Rink!

They have tours of the Park every Wednesday through Friday.
